The early Paris years (1948-52)
Once settled in the Paris studio in the Cité des Fleurs, which he used until 1966, Simon Hantaï began by painting a few oils on canvas inspired by the Italian primitives. The years that followed were spent discovering and assimilating the various movements of modern art, when he experimented with all sorts of techniques under several different influences; he produced many collages and oils on paper.
